#DOY2017 „Digiscoper of the Year 2017“
Discovering the macro in the micro, getting unique close-ups of animals, capturing fascinating encounters forever – this is what digiscoping is all about. SWAROVSKI OPTIK has been a leader in this field for years and is now running its “Digiscoper of the Year” competition for the 12th time to encourage people to develop their eye for beauty. People from around 80 different countries have submitted more than ten thousand photos and videos since the competition began. In 2017 SWAROVSKI OPTIK is once again offering an attractive top prize of a complete digiscoping set. A Facebook contest will be run in parallel with the main competition. “Digiscoper of the Year 2017” kicks off on June 1 and entries must be submitted by September 30, 2017.
“The world belongs to those who can see beauty – true to our company philosophy, we want our products to encourage people to set out on their own voyages of discovery. Digiscoping provides the perfect opportunity to experience the beauty, diversity, and vibrancy of nature in every detail and to capture these special moments forever.” This is how Carina Schiestl-Swarovski, Chairwoman of the Executive Board of SWAROVSKI OPTIK, explains why photography and filming using high-quality spotting scopes and binoculars is constantly growing in popularity.
Four categories, one main prize
Entrants in the “Digiscoper of the Year 2017” competition are invited to submit photos and videos of animals (mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and amphibians) in their natural habitat. They have to be taken with a digital camera or smartphone through the eyepiece of a spotting scope or binoculars. They should be entered in one of four categories: “Movement & Action,” “Portrait & Macro,” “Mammals,” and “Video.” One winner will be named per category, and from these four a jury of top experts will select the “Digiscoper of the Year 2017.”
Win a set of premium-quality SWAROVSKI OPTIK equipment
The overall winner will be presented with a complete set of SWAROVSKI OPTIK digiscoping equipment (ATX or STX eyepiece module, 25-60x85 objective module, digiscoping adapter, spotting scope rail, tripod, and tripod head) as well as a trophy crafted in the apprentice workshops at SWAROVSKI OPTIK in Absam. The three other category winners will each receive a pair of EL 32 binoculars from SWAROVSKI OPTIK. Details regarding “Digiscoper of the Year 2017” terms of entry and the competition process can be viewed at www.digiscoperoftheyear.com
“Digiscoper of the Year” Facebook contest
In 2017 a competition will once again also be run on Facebook. Every month, SWAROVSKI OPTIK will publish five photos or videos that have been submitted for that month’s highlighted category at www.facebook.com/swarovskioptik.nature (June: Portrait & Macro, July: Mammals, August: Movement & Action, September: Video). The photo or video with the most likes at the end of the month will win a top-quality SWAROVSKI OPTIK gift pack comprising a watch, water bottle, and T-shirt. The images published have no effect on the main competition. All the entries that are received each month will be put forward for consideration by the jury.
